What a team is actually buying
Operational control, not code execution
Engineers already run infrastructure. What a manager cannot get from a laptop is one place that says who deployed what, when, and whether it cleared the controls. Central is that place, and the role model is enforced on the server rather than in a client anybody could edit.
Evidence an auditor will accept
Every run keeps the receipt it emitted, verbatim, alongside who started it and what it was held to. Role separation and an append-only audit trail are what a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 assessor asks to see, and this produces both as a by-product of working normally.
Weeks of platform engineering you do not have to build
Scanners, linting frameworks and secure pipeline templates are the kind of thing a platform team spends months on and then maintains forever. The Platform tier ships them working.
The credentials stay yours
Central holds no cloud credentials and no Terraform state, and it executes nothing. A cloud account here is a pointer to an identity you already control. A full compromise of that database teaches an attacker which role ARNs you use, and that is the entire blast radius.

Is Vizier Local really free?
Yes. Downloading it needs a free IaC Bazaar account, and after that there is no usage meter, no expiry, and no call home for permission. It runs on your machine with your credentials, checks provenance against the public catalog, and refuses what it cannot verify. It is not open source - Vizier is proprietary and distributed as a binary.
What exactly does a Central subscription unlock?
The control plane: the multi-user console, role-based access control, one evidence floor per environment, centralised state locking, review before an apply, and durable run history with receipts. Local execution is unchanged and stays free.
Where does Central run, and what does it store?
On your own infrastructure, against your own Postgres. It stores no cloud credentials and no Terraform state, and it never executes anything itself: your machine performs the run and reports the outcome back. State stays in your backend.
Do the premium plugins see my infrastructure?
They ingest abstract metadata to run scans and builds, not your credentials, secrets or state. The boundary is the point: the hosted parts see the shape of what you are deploying, never the keys to it.
Can we run everything inside our own network?
That is the Sovereign tier. The whole stack installs on-premise, including a private instance of the live sandbox verifier, so proprietary code is tested without leaving your boundary.
