IaC Bazaar vs Cloud Posse
Free OSS AWS modules + Atmos (orchestration) · Cloud Posse site
A big free library of AWS-focused OSS modules that feeds a paid orchestration and consulting business.
What Cloud Posse is
Free Apache-2.0 terraform-aws-* modules and components, plus Atmos (open-source orchestration) and Atmos Pro (a SaaS control plane), plus paid consulting. The modules are a giveaway that feeds the platform and services; they are not sold a-la-carte or independently verified as a marketplace SKU.
Pricing
Modules + Atmos CLI: free (Apache-2.0). Atmos Pro: Free / $500/mo Team / from $36,000/yr Business / custom Enterprise. DevOps Accelerator consulting: contact-us.
Coverage
The module library is overwhelmingly AWS (140+ AWS modules; the flagship is literally terraform-aws-*); a handful of non-AWS providers exist. Atmos itself is cloud-agnostic, but it is a runtime, not a module set.
Where IaC Bazaar wins
- We sell VERIFIED modules: static validation plus many live-tested (applied, verified, destroyed) and cosign-signed with published evidence. Cloud Posse’s modules are free community code - the two most popular show 20M+ and 2.8M+ Registry downloads but "verified: false" - with no independent verification or signing published per module.
- Multi-cloud breadth: 19 clouds across Terraform/OpenTofu AND Ansible, vs. an overwhelmingly AWS-centric library.
- No orchestration lock-in: plain Terraform/OpenTofu you run anywhere. Getting the full value of Cloud Posse’s components generally means adopting Atmos and its stack conventions.
- AI-native distribution: a public, no-auth catalog API + MCP server let an agent discover the verified catalog and its evidence directly (the input/output contracts themselves need a signed-in account, since they are the sellable half of a verified module).
Where Cloud Posse leads
- Enormous installed base - flagship modules with tens of millions of downloads.
- A complete, opinionated AWS reference architecture (components + Atmos stacks) that goes well beyond a per-module marketplace.
- Atmos / Atmos Pro is a full orchestration + CI control plane (drift detection, PR-level impact, stack locking, approvals).
- Hands-on paid consulting ("fanatical support", money-back guarantee) for done-for-you delivery.
- Fully readable source: the modules are public Apache-2.0 repos, so anyone can inspect every variable and output without an account - our input/output contracts sit behind sign-in.
The honest take
Cloud Posse pairs a large, free, AWS-focused OSS module library (community code, not independently verified or signed) with Atmos, an orchestration runtime, and paid consulting - so it complements, rather than replaces, a multi-cloud marketplace of independently verified, live-tested, cosign-signed a-la-carte modules.
