nginx-prometheus-exporter, A Real stub_status Seen Up And Down

nginx-prometheus-exporter on EL 10 from the upstream release (sha256-verified), as a hardened systemd service on loopback; the live test brings up nginx with stub_status on loopback as a fixture, sees nginx_up 1 with the connection gauges, stops nginx and sees nginx_up 0. Original role, live-tested on Rocky Linux 10.

Documentation

nginx-exporter

nginx-prometheus-exporter, NGINX's stub_status as Prometheus metrics, from the upstream release (sha256-verified), as a hardened system service on loopback. Original role for EL 10, live-tested with podman on Rocky Linux 10.

No package, so the checksum is the whole story. EL 10 carries no nginx-prometheus-exporter; NGINX ships a release with a checksum file beside it. The role downloads both and has Ansible's get_url refuse the asset unless its SHA-256 is the one in the vendor's file, then installs the binaries as root's in /usr/local/bin, pinned by nginx_exporter_version.

A service account, a hardened unit, a loopback listener. nginx_exporter is a system user with no shell that owns the data directory and nothing else; the unit runs with NoNewPrivileges, PrivateTmp, ProtectHome and ProtectSystem=strict. The listener is 127.0.0.1:9113 by default, for a proxy that authenticates or a client on the same host; the live test reads the listening sockets and expects loopback only.

Proven against a real stub_status. The live test installs nginx as a fixture with a stub_status server on loopback, sees nginx_up 1 and the connection gauges, stops nginx and sees nginx_up 0 - the scrape, the parse and the up/down signal a dashboard keys on. Point nginx_exporter_scrape_uri at the stub_status of the nginx already on the host (the nginx-hardened role in this catalogue).

Prometheus Blackbox exporter from the upstream release (sha256-verified) as a hardened system service on loopback with HTTP and TCP modules, checked by --config.check before the file lands.
